A court has sentenced an employee of the Snihurivska penal colony in Mykolaiv region who defected to the enemy. In addition to the prison term, the man was deprived of his special officer rank.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The court proved that during the occupation of the city of Snihurivka, Mykolaiv region, by the Russian armed forces, a man who worked as a senior inspector in Snihurivka Correctional Colony No. 5 voluntarily cooperated with the occupiers. He agreed to take the position of deputy head of the regime and supervision department in Kherson pre-trial detention center No. 1, created by the Russian occupation administration.

In his illegal position, the pseudo-security officer carried out orders from the leaders of the occupation authorities and received a salary in Russian rubles. The man was exposed after the de-occupation of the territory.

The court found the local resident guilty of collaboration (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The man is also banned from holding positions in state bodies, local government, law enforcement agencies and engaging in activities related to the provision of public services for 15 years.

Earlier, the former head of the Kherson colony, who ordered the forcible transfer of 97 prisoners from the Snihuriv colony, was put in the dock.

Last fall, the Center for Public Investigations released a film "Who Kidnapped the Prisoners of the Snihuriv Correctional Colony in the Village of Tsentralne".

For nine months, the village of Tsentralne in Mykolaiv region was occupied by the Russian military. In August last year, the gauleiters announced the annexation of the occupied territories of the region. They were even going to hold a pseudo-referendum. Their plans were thwarted by the Ukrainian defense forces. They liberated a part of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions in November 22. But by that time, the Russian invaders had managed to kidnap local residents and all the prisoners of the colony in Central.

The CPR investigated who was involved in the war crimes.
