Today, there are seven underground hospitals in Kherson Oblast. There are plans to open 14 more.

According to Dmytro Butriy, first deputy head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, this will allow doctors to provide medical care to the population safely.

"The enemy is constantly shelling our medical facilities. They have repeatedly "flown" to the children's regional hospital, and the oncology clinic was destroyed. Recently, a drone flew into an outpatient clinic and a pediatrician was injured. So of course we are working to create underground hospitals," the official said.

Currently, a perinatal center, operating rooms and intensive care units are equipped underground in the region.

In total, 135 medical institutions are actively operating in the de-occupied part of Kherson region, including 56 restored after enemy attacks. In particular, four completely destroyed rural health posts have been restored, and thanks to the support of international partners, 28 modular medical trailers have been installed in the region's communities. More than 750 doctors and more than 1,600 medical workers are involved in treating the population.

Three medical facilities in Kherson Oblast have been equipped with"underground hospitals" that ensure the safety of patients and medical staff even during shelling. The construction of one underground hospital in Kherson cost UAH 19 million. The underground hospital was equipped with operating and intensive care units, intensive care wards, a manipulation room, a laboratory, a warehouse of medicines and the necessary medical equipment. In addition, a bomb shelter in one of Kherson's medical institutions was restored and re-equipped to provide medical services.
