The Rozdilnyansky District Court of Odesa Region found a former law enforcement officer guilty of illegally transporting persons liable for military service across the state border and sentenced him to two years in a disciplinary battalion.
This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation found that in January 2025, the law enforcement officer joined a criminal group that organized illegal transportation to unrecognized Transnistria. He had information about the location of checkpoints and patrol routes, so he dressed his clients in military uniforms and transported them through checkpoints under the guise of transporting his colleagues. At a designated location, the men would leave the car and cross the border on their own.
The cost of such services amounted to USD 6 thousand per person, part of the amount was received by the ex-border guard. The suspect was detained in February 2025 while receiving another payment. The materials on other members of the group were separated into separate proceedings.
In April, the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the National Police and the State Border Guard Service, completed the pre-trial investigation of the case and sent the indictment to court.
Prior to that, SBI officers, together with border guards, also detained an official of a law enforcement agency in Odesa region on suspicion of setting up a scheme to smuggle men subject to military service across the state border to the Republic of Moldova.
In February, SBI officers in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine detained a law enforcement officer in Odesa region who was making money from smuggling men of military age across the border.
