Major General Andriy Hnatov, who worked in the Kherson region, has been appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The relevant decree was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on March 16.
In a statement, the General Staff of the Armed Forces noted that Hnatov was tasked with improving the efficiency of the Armed Forces' management vertical.
"Major General Andriy Hnatov has been tasked with increasing the efficiency of the management vertical of the Armed Forces, in particular in the process of reorganizing and implementing the corps structure, efficiency in making and implementing decisions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, as well as implementing combat experience in planning and commanding troops," the General Staff said in a statement.
Prior to that, Andriy Hnatov served as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was also the Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the troops of the Operational Command "South" of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
From 2016 to 2018, he served as Chief of Staff, and from 2018 to 2021, he was the commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi of the Ukrainian Navy.
Earlier, after numerous complaints from journalists, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to dismiss Natalia Humeniuk from the post of head of the Center for Strategic Communications of the Southern Defense Forces. In particular, journalists and civic activists from theMediarukh association appealed to the command of the armed forces, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, and the Chief of the General Staff to remove Natalia Humeniuk from the leadership of the communications direction of the Southern Operational Command. Media representatives insisted that she was restricting the work of journalists.
