The city authorities have amended the decision to take over vocational education institutions into municipal ownership. The list includes seven schools and lyceums operating in the city, for which more than UAH 100 million has already been allocated.
The relevant draft decision was supported at a meeting of the city council's standing committee on housing and communal services.
These are institutions that are transferred from state to communal ownership of the Mykolaiv city territorial community free of charge.
According to Tetiana Dmytrova, head of the municipal property department, the city council is now responsible for financing these educational institutions. In 2024, more than one hundred million hryvnias have already been allocated for their maintenance.
The question arose as to whether the dormitories of these institutions are occupied. According to Dmytrova, the educational process is ongoing, and students live in the dormitories. Currently, there are only a few dormitories that are not in use because they either need to be repaired or equipped with shelters. All the others with shelters are working.
The new list includes:
The decision was made on the basis of a letter from the Education Department of the City Council, which was received in August 2024. The basis for the transfer is the Law of Ukraine "On the Transfer of State and Communal Property".
Thus, the city can take over the full list of property complexes of educational institutions operating in Mykolaiv. This will allow the city to independently manage their activities, carry out repairs, finance equipment and other needs at the expense of the local budget.
The decision is to be considered at the next session of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The Ochakiv secondary sanatorium boarding school is also planned to be reorganized into a branch of the municipal Mykolaiv Regional Academic Lyceum "Renaissance" as part of the overall reform of the school network. Two similar schools have already been re-profiled in the region, and Ochakivska is to become the third.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution adopted in March, from September 1, 2025, the state will stop funding teacher salaries in schools with fewer than 45 students. Thirty-one schools in Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions are at risk, with the largest number of them - 22 - in Mykolaiv.
