Mykolaiv doctors are undergoing training in Germany to improve their prosthetics skills. This will enable patients to receive comprehensive care, including the manufacture of prostheses.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

Specialists of Mykolaiv City Hospital No. 4 have started training at the International School of O&P, Aufder Klapp in Duderstadt, Germany. During this training, the doctors mastered the latest methods of manufacturing individual prostheses to improve the quality of medical services, including for war victims.

This course is the next step towards opening a prosthetic and orthotic workshop at the hospital, which will become part of the Rehabilitation Center.

In 2024, thanks to cooperation with international partners, Hospital #4 received modern equipment for the manufacture of lower limb prostheses from Horus Prosthetics Gmb. This cooperation allowed the doctors to undergo special training and receive certificates, as well as to manufacture the first prostheses using the latest technologies.

The opening of such a workshop will enable patients to receive a full cycle of care at one hospital with the involvement of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, rehabilitation specialists and prosthetists.

It was planned to open the prosthetic and orthotic workshop at the 4th City Hospital in September last year. Mykolaiv has received the necessary equipment to set up the prosthetic and orthotic workshop and plans to purchase premises for its processing. In August, the German company Horus Prosthetics provided free prosthetics to nine soldiers using unique equipment that allows them to produce prostheses perfectly tailored to the patient's anatomy.

Also last year, a rehabilitation department was opened at the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital. As part of the renovation, the premises were equipped with modern furniture and equipment for patient rehabilitation, as well as specialized rooms and wards.
