Mykolaiv Police Officers Posthumously Awarded for Valor in War

Police officers from Mykolaiv region who died during the war were posthumously awarded the "For the Defense of Ukraine" decoration. In addition, 24 law enforcement officers who are actively defending the country from the enemy received state awards.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.

Mykolaiv police officers who were killed in the line of duty during a full-scale war were awarded the highest state awards. Police Captain Yaroslav Lukianenko and Police Lieutenant Yuriy Kravchenko, who died on February 26, 2022, were awarded the Presidential Award "For the Defense of Ukraine" (posthumously).

According to Serhii Makhno, Head of the National Police in Mykolaiv Region, law enforcement officers gathered to honor the memory of their colleagues who gave their lives for the sake of people and independence.

They will forever remain in the ranks and in the police family," Makhno said.

The policemen, at that time, special police officers of the Mykolaiv company, together with the military, defended the city from enemy invasion. During the fighting, their colleagues were killed and five others were wounded. At the ceremony, the parents and spouses of the fallen heroes received the awards.

In addition, in accordance with the decrees of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 24 police officers who have been defending the country, helping citizens and clearing the land of enemy shells since the first days of the war, also received the "For the Defense of Ukraine" awards.

All those present honored the memory of the fallen heroes by laying flowers at the memorial to the officers who died in the line of duty.

On the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded 11 residents of Mykolaiv region with state awards and honorary titles for their significant contribution to strengthening the government, development of society and performance of official duties. The honorees included doctors, teachers, utility workers, coaches, and donors.

Also, at the end of December last year, a fallen serviceman from Mykolaiv region was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for saving more than 50 people, including children. He was killed on August 18, 2022, during a shelling of the position where he was stationed.
