Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office launches support unit for victims of war crimes

A newly created department for organizing support for victims and witnesses of war crimes and other international crimes has been launched in the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office. This was reported by the press service of the department.

The report states that the introduction of a comprehensive system of support for victims and witnesses of war crimes in Ukraine is due to the challenges of today, as the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation has resulted in a significant number of war crimes and other international crimes. People who have faced the horrors of war must receive the necessary assistance and adequate support, and their rights and legitimate interests must be protected and restored.

The key tasks of the department are to ensure interaction between victims and investigators in specific criminal proceedings on war crimes, other state bodies, institutions, organizations, international and national organizations that provide support to victims and witnesses.

Protecting the interests of particularly vulnerable groups, such as victims of conflict-related sexual violence, children, etc.

Introduce gender-sensitive and victim-centered approaches into the work of pre-trial investigation and prosecution agencies in accordance with international standards.

Comprehensive information support for victims and witnesses at all stages of criminal proceedings.

The department works with victims or witnesses of war crimes who already have the appropriate procedural status.

Interaction with victims and witnesses is conducted only with their consent and in compliance with the principle of confidentiality. Such persons always retain the right to refuse further cooperation.

Earlier, Intent reported that the materials concerning the labor protection engineer of one of the oil processing enterprises in Mykolaiv region were submitted to the court on the fact of air pollution. According to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the engineer was accused of violating special rules and non-compliance with legal standards.
