The State Bureau of Investigation has completed the pre-trial investigation in the case of a resident of Mykolaiv who, together with an employee of the local Military Commissariat and JV, organized a scheme to extort bribes from relatives of persons liable for military service. The indictment has already been submitted to court.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.

According to the investigation, in January 2025, a man was taken to the territorial recruitment center to have his documents checked. While his relatives were waiting for a decision, they were approached by an unknown civilian who said that he could resolve the issue of the man's return home.

He assured that he had connections among the TCC officials and offered his services for 4,500 USD. Subsequently, the defendants were detained by law enforcement officers while transferring the money.

The defendant will be held liable for obtaining an unlawful benefit by using influence on a public official under Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 2 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of this article provides for up to five years in prison.

In February 2025, the defendants were detained while receiving the second part of the bribe from relatives of a mobilized person who was already serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The case against the RTCC employee was separated into a separate proceeding. The Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region is providing procedural guidance in the case.

Recently, a Mykolaiv court sentenced the man to three years in prison for evading mobilization despite his health complaints. The case was supported by testimony and documents that showed that he had failed to appear when summoned. In court, the defendant claimed that he was unable to serve due to health problems, and provided several medical certificates of unfitness to prove it.

A junior sergeant from Mykolaiv region demanded $4,500 for influencing the medical commission to help a man avoid mobilization. He was detained while receiving the bribe, and the court imposed a fine and released him from custody.
