The dam of the Kurakhivska thermal power plant was damaged by Russian shelling and the water began to threaten the surrounding villages.

This was reported by the head of the Donetsk regional state administration Vadym Filashkin.

According to the head of the regional administration, this strike potentially threatens residents of settlements on the Vovchya River in both Donetsk and Dnipro regions. As of 16:00, the water level in the river within the Velykonovosilkivska community has risen by 1.2 meters. No flooding has been reported so far.

Depending on the degree of damage to the dam, there is a risk of partial flooding of settlements located downstream of the Vovcha River: the villages of Stari Terni, Ulakly, Konstantinople, Andriivka, Oleksiivka, Bogatyr, Zelenyi Kut, Novoukrainka and a number of settlements in Dnipropetrovska oblast.

Kurakhivska TPP is a thermal power plant in Ukraine, near the town of Kurakhove, Pokrovsk district, Donetsk region. The TPP is connected to the grid by three 330kV power lines. One 330kV power line is under construction, and two 330kV power lines run through the temporarily occupied territories and are currently offline.

According to the General Staff, over the past 24 hours, Russians conducted 48 attacks in the Kurakhove sector near Illinka, Vozdvyzhenka, Novodmytrivka and Katerynivka.

Anatoliy Borychivsky, head of the thermal power plant, told Novosti Donbassa that it took several months to dismantle the power plant for spare parts due to the threat of a Russian offensive on the city. By the end of the summer, the dismantling was almost complete, allowing other facilities to be repaired quickly. All the equipment was removed from Kurakhivska TPP, and only the equipment that could not be evacuated remained at the facility.

Meanwhile, even a year later, the Kherson region failed to completely eliminate the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovka HPP. Damage to the surveyed housing on the right bank of the Kherson region alone amounted to almost UAH 4.6 billion.

In June 2023, an urgent evacuation of the areas that fall within the flood zone on the Dnipro coast began in the liberated territory of Kherson region. The evacuation has already begun from the areas of Kherson city and villages affected by the flooding.
