The Odesa City Council has considered new designs for a transport interchange on the Arkadiyske (Gagarinske) plateau to solve traffic jams.
This was announced by Petro Obukhov, a deputy of the Odesa City Council and chairman of the Standing Committee on Transport and Roads.
He noted that the project of internal passages and pedestrian passages has been under development for more than six months. In the future, the Arcadia Plateau should accommodate more than 16 thousand apartments - up to 50 thousand residents. Currently, all exits from the district are virtually dead-ends and completely depend on the congested Genoese Street. The mayor's office plans to widen it to four lanes, but recognizes that this is not enough for the future traffic load.
According to the plan, the new roads should connect the plateau with Akademichna, Frantsuzsky Boulevard, and Baltimorskaya streets. However, implementation depends on the consent of developers. Some of them have already agreed to give up some of their land plots. Others, on the contrary, have included the area for the road in their own adjoining zone, although it is intended for the road according to the cadastre.
According to Obukhov, this situation has put the implementation of the entire road plan in jeopardy. It has now been decided to create a transport model of the district, which should answer the question of the feasibility of new roads. But this may take another six months. And if the developer does not agree after the construction is completed, any attempts to build the road will look like an encroachment on private property, which will be a politically toxic step.
Meanwhile, in Odesa, it is planned to carry out coastal protection in the area of the Arcadia beach for 167 million hryvnias. The work is expected to be completed by the end of December 2026.
