Two residents of the Mykolaiv region were sentenced to 6 years in prison for participating in a pseudo-referendum in favor of Russia. The women went door-to-door, forced people to "vote" and falsified the results, and after the liberation of the region fled to the occupied Kherson region.
This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Two residents of the Mykolaiv region were sentenced to six years in prison for assisting the occupiers in organizing a pseudo-referendum. This sentence was handed down by the court following a public prosecution by the regional prosecutor's office.
The women were found guilty of collaboration committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy (Article 28(2), Article 111-1(5) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In addition to the prison term, the court also ordered the confiscation of their property.
The investigation established that a 41-year-old resident of the village of Promin, Bashtanka district, voluntarily agreed to head the local occupation administration, taking the position of the so-called "starosta". Her 35-year-old accomplice became her deputy.
During the illegal referendum in the occupied territory, the women went door-to-door to force people to vote for the region's accession to Russia. They also participated in falsifying the results of this so-called expression of will.
For their activities, the occupiers' accomplices received monetary rewards in Russian rubles. After the liberation of Mykolaiv region from the occupiers, both women fled to the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region.
The SBU also exposed two engineers from Mykolaiv region who tried to transfer secret defense materials to Russian special services. The offenders planned to transfer data related to the development of one of the Ukrainian defense plants, as well as important military information. If found guilty, they face up to life imprisonment.
Recently, the official was detained during an official meeting in the administrative building of the Pervomaisk City Council. She is suspected of working for Russian special services and facilitating the transfer of classified information to the enemy.
