The former senior dog handler of one of the military units of the National Guard of Ukraine was served a notice of suspicion of treason and desertion.

This was reported by the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, on February 24, 2022, the staff sergeant did not report for duty, actually escaping from the military unit in Kherson. In May of the same year, he went over to the enemy and began working as a dog handler at the illegally created occupation "Dog Training Center" under the so-called "Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Kherson Region".

The special prosecutor's office noted that the collaborator not only trained service dogs for the occupiers, but also participated in escorting detainees, patrolling the streets and selecting people to organize anti-Ukrainian rallies and sabotage.

Since the suspect is hiding in the temporarily occupied territory, the investigation was conducted in absentia. His case is being handled by SBI investigators in Melitopol.

The traitor faces up to 15 years or life imprisonment for high treason and desertion.

Recently, law enforcement officers served suspicion notices to two residents of Kherson who worked for the enemy in the "police department" during the occupation of the city. They are a 37-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man suspected of voluntarily taking up positions in the illegally created "Suvorov City Police" that operated under the control of the invaders.

The court also sentenced a former police major from Kherson region who voluntarily defected to the occupiers. He was found guilty of committing serious criminal offenses, including treason and collaboration. The accused is a native of Illinka village, Kakhovka district, Kherson region, a resident of Fedorivka village, Dariivka community.

In addition, the court sentenced two collaborators from Kherson region to 15 years in prison for working for the Russians, but so far in absentia.
