A village in Kherson Oblast is planning to overhaul its water supply system after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant was blown up. The reconstruction will provide centralized water supply to more than 1,000 villagers and IDPs.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the DREAM ecosystem.

The Dariivka Village Council plans to overhaul the water supply system in the village of Lymanets, Kherson district. About 1600 buildings were damaged in the Dariivka community: 252 of them due to flooding after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, and the rest as a result of shelling. Infrastructure, educational and medical facilities, and the bridge were also damaged. Prior to the full-scale invasion, the community was home to 14,414 people, and now it is home to about 6,000, so creating conditions for the safe return of residents is an urgent need.

The village's water supply system is in a state of emergency due to worn-out pipes and a drop in water levels in the wells after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant was blown up. Due to frequent breaks and water losses, the system is unable to meet the needs of the residents. Most of the networks are made of asbestos cement, which is banned for use.

The project plans to replace 18 km of water pipeline with polyethylene pipes, install new wells, valves, pumps with frequency converters, a filtration system, modern meters and sensors to monitor water pressure and flow. The project also includes the replacement of two Rozhnovsky towers.

The UAH 17 million project has no funding yet, but it already has approved design and estimate documentation and is in line with national and regional development strategies.

It is expected that 450 households and 800 villagers, including 120 internally displaced persons and 135 children, will receive centralized water supply after the project is implemented. This will improve sanitary conditions, facilitate the return of residents to the community and restore its economic and social life after the occupation and flooding.

Also, in the village of Kucherske, Beryslav district, Kherson region, the reconstruction of the centralized water supply system, which was destroyed as a result of the war, is planned. The cost of the project exceeds UAH 58 million, but less than two percent has been funded so far. At the same time, a company with a dubious reputation has been repairing the water supply system in Kherson region for over UAH 56 million for the second year in a row, having been previously accused of collusion in tenders and non-compliance with contractual terms.
