Millionaires from education: which rectors of Odesa are leading in terms of income

The rectors of the ten top-rated universities in Odesa declared millions in income, significant savings, real estate and land plots in 2024.

This data was released by the Center for Public Investigations after analyzing the declarations of the heads of higher education institutions that are in the TOP-10 of the Osvita.ua rating.

The study included the rectors of the Odesa National University, Odesa Polytechnic, Medical, Technological, Economic, Pedagogical, Maritime, Construction, Law Universities, and the International Humanitarian University.

The rector of the Moscow State University, Kostiantyn Hromovenko, did not file a declaration, explaining that he heads a private institution and is not subject to declaration.

The highest income was declared by Valeriy Zaporozhan (ONMedU) - UAH 2.2 million. This included salary, pension, inheritance and half a million hryvnias from the sale of a Lexus RX-450H. In 2023, his income was three times less - UAH 723 thousand.

The second place goes to Anatoliy Kovrov (OSACA) with UAH 1 million of income, which increased by UAH 280 thousand compared to the previous year. He received a salary, pension and fees.

The third position is occupied by Serhiy Rudenko (ONMU), who earned UAH 920 thousand, mostly from salary and pension.

Hennadii Oborskyi (Polytechnic) declared UAH 890 thousand, Anatolii Kovalev (ONEU) and Andrii Krasnozhon (Pedagogical University) - UAH 870 thousand each. Oleh Todoschak (Law Academy) - UAH 740 thousand, Larysa Ivanchenkova (ONTU) - UAH 610 thousand.

Family wealth: more than a million for two

For many rectors, a significant portion of their income comes from the earnings of family members. For example, Anatolii Kovrov declared UAH 461.5 thousand earned by his wife. Together, the couple has UAH 1.4 million.

The Todoschak family received UAH 1.3 million, including UAH 584 thousand from his wife and UAH 25 thousand from a scholarship. The Krasnozhens received UAH 955.7 thousand, of which UAH 85 thousand was his wife's income from renting property.

Zaporozhezhan's family income is not listed, only his own. Similarly, rectors Rudenko, Truba and Ivanchenkova did not indicate the income of their family members.

Cash and bank accounts: who saved what

The record holder in terms of savings in 2024 was Zaporozhets with UAH 5.6 million, which is significantly less than in 2023 (UAH 12.5 million).

Anatoliy Kovrov has UAH 3.6 million, Todoschak - UAH 2.7 million (of which UAH 1.3 million is his wife's savings), Ivanchenkova - UAH 2.6 million, Krasnozhon - UAH 0.7 million.

Oborskyi, Rudenko, and Kovalev did not declare any savings, just like in the previous year.

Apartments, houses and hectares: who owns what

All the rectors own housing - apartments, houses, cottages. Zaporizhzhia declared the most - 610 square meters (an apartment in Odesa and a dacha in Kryzhanivka).

Rudenko has 358.6 square meters with his wife, and Kovrov has a 232-square-meter house. Todoschak has 216.5 square meters, Truba has 193.2 square meters (two apartments), Oborsky has 162.3 square meters, and Krasnozhon has 151.4 square meters.

Ivanchenkova declared only an apartment in Odesa, while Kovalev declared an apartment owned by his wife.

Some of them also declared land plots. For example, Krasnozhon has more than 4 hectares, and Zaporozhan has two plots with a total area of 0.2 hectares.
