In Kherson region, a soldier filmed secret maps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and passed them on to a civilian, which led to the destruction of an important surveillance camera. In addition, he left the service without permission and was hiding for more than 20 days - now he faces up to 10 years in prison.
This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.
Law enforcement officers sent to court an indictment against the soldier, who is suspected of disclosing information about the location of Ukrainian units and unauthorized abandonment of his place of service.
According to the investigation, in October 2024, the soldier, while in the area of deployment, filmed screens with maps and operational information on his phone and then passed the video to a civilian.
As a result of the data leak, one of the key surveillance cameras that recorded the movements of the Russian army was destroyed, which significantly complicated the collection of intelligence on enemy equipment and manpower. In addition, on March 4, 2025, the serviceman left the service without permission and hid for more than 20 days until he was detained.
The court imposed on him a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail. He faces up to 10 years in prison for his actions. The case was investigated by SBU investigators in Kherson region under the supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.
Also recently, in Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers exposed two engineers who tried to transfer secret materials from a defense enterprise to Russia, including developments and critical military information. They are suspected of high treason under martial law, a crime that could result in life imprisonment.
During the searches of their homes, SBU officers seized computers, phones and other data storage devices that indicate their cooperation with the aggressor country and involvement in espionage.
In late April, the SBU detained the official during a meeting in the building of the Pervomaisk City Council. She is charged with high treason - according to the investigation, she passed on information about the movements of the Armed Forces in southern Ukraine to Russian special services.
