Russia was hunting for new developments for the Ukrainian Armed Forces through its agent. However, the security forces managed to expose and detain the spy at an enterprise in Odesa region.
According to the SBU, the attacker was a 47-year-old engineer who was recruited by the FSB before he was employed at a plant that manufactures components for the latest equipment of the Armed Forces.
According to the special services, from the first day he sought access to drawings and production schemes, hiding behind engineering work and gaining the trust of his colleagues. It was also established that the agent also served as a corrector. To help the Russians "bypass" the air defense system of Odesa region, he traveled around the region and tried to identify air defense positions and radar stations. The defendant was detained, and during the searches, photos of technical documentation that he planned to pass to Russian special services were seized from him.
Investigators served the suspect a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier, the SBU exposed two engineers in Mykolaiv region who tried to transfer secret developments of a defense plant and important military data to Russia. They face life imprisonment for treason under martial law. One of the agents, acting on the instructions of his FSB supervisors, tried to pass secret technical documentation related to the production of gas turbine engines to the enemy.
The second agent aimed to collect data on the volume of state defense orders at the enterprise, as well as to obtain information on the location of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and critical infrastructure facilities. He regularly traveled around the area by car, looking for the right locations, and had covert conversations with local residents to find out the necessary information in the dark.
