A collaborator from Kherson is suspected of high treason and collaboration with the occupiers. She headed the Duma and the fake scientific institute Askania-Nova. She currently faces 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

This is evidenced by the suspicion of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Yevheniia Rubin, a native of Kherson and a member of the Suvorov District Council, was served with a notice of suspicion of treason and collaboration.

According to the investigation, Rubin voluntarily agreed to participate in the fake elections organized by the Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region. She ran for the so-called Kherson Regional Duma from the ruling party of the aggressor country, United Russia, and was elected as a deputy of this body.

Starting in September 2023, Rubin headed the United Russia faction in the fake Duma. She systematically participated in political events of the occupiers - congresses, conferences, meetings, reported to the population on the work of the party and coordinated actions with other collaborators. She also spread propaganda through her own Telegram channel.

In addition, Rubin voluntarily took up the position of the so-called acting director of the fake scientific institute of M.F. Ivanov "Askania-Nova". According to the investigation, this was part of a strategy of information, humanitarian and economic isolation of the occupied part of the Kherson region from the rest of Ukraine.

The prosecutor's office believes that by her actions Rubin contributed to the establishment and strengthening of the occupation administration, as well as imposed pro-Russian narratives on the local population. She is charged with several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • ч. 2 of Art. 111 - high treason committed under martial law;
  • ч. 5 and 6 of Article 111-1 - collaboration, including participation in illegal authorities and conducting an information campaign in support of the occupiers.

Sanctions under these articles provide for up to 15 years or life imprisonment.

Also recently, the former director of the occupied Kherson port was sentenced for collaboration. He was accused of assisting the occupiers and participating in illegal elections.
