The Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa granted the prosecutor's motion to impose a pre-trial restraint on a man who was detained after an attack on police officers on May 2 in Kulykove Pole.

According to the court' s ruling, the man will be held in custody until June 30, after which either the court will extend this measure of restraint or choose another one.

The man will be held in the Odesa Pre-trial Detention Center, but he will not be there immediately; first, he will be kept under escort in the City Clinical Hospital No. 1, and he will be transferred to the pre-trial detention center only after his recovery.

The fact is that to stop the attacker, one of the police officers used his service firearm and wounded him. On May 2, a man armed with two knives attacked police officers on public order duty at Kulykove Pole in Odesa. As a result of the attack, two law enforcement officers were stabbed.

The term of the measure of restraint in the form of detention will be calculated from the moment of actual detention, that is, from May 2.

May 2, 2025 is the eleventh anniversary of the tragic events in Odesa.

In March 2025, the European Court of Human Rights ruled on the events of May 2, 2014 in Odesa, recognizing Ukraine's responsibility for the inaction of state authorities that led to the deaths. At the same time, the Court noted that the root cause of the tragedy was Russian propaganda and destabilization of the situation in the country.

The events of May 2, 2014 began in the area of Greek Square. On that day, around 15:00, fans of the football clubs Chornomorets and Metalist, together with the citizens, decided to walk the streets of Odesa before the match in a peaceful march "For United Ukraine".
