The demolition of four residential buildings that were completely destroyed by Russian shelling will begin in Odesa.
The decision was made by the executive committee of the city council at an extraordinary meeting on May 15.
The deputies decided that the dismantling will be carried out on Skisna, Agronomichna, Zadniprovsky and Mykola Borovskoho streets.
In addition, the local authorities plan to partially dismantle the damaged high-rise building on Knyazya Yaroslav Mudroho Avenue, which was hit on May 1. According to Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, the building, which has 192 apartments, has been declared an emergency. After the structures are stabilized, it is planned to be restored through major repairs.
Two private houses on Zelena Balka Street will also undergo partial dismantling. Residents of the affected buildings are applying for compensation as part of the government's eRestoration program: the owners of three apartments on Yaroslav Mudryi Avenue and five on Skisna Street have already submitted their documents. Other residents are still in the process of drawing up title deeds.
Odesa is under constant attack from Russia - the city is regularly shelled with Shahed-type kamikaze drones. As a result of these attacks, residential buildings, infrastructure and historical buildings are damaged. Some of the buildings are in a state of disrepair and must be dismantled after the shelling.
For example, on the night of May 1, Russians launched a massive drone strike on Odesa. The attack resulted in hits to residential buildings and casualties among local residents. According to official reports, two people were killed and 15 others were injured.
A 16-story residential building that was hit by a Russian drone was declared an emergency, and its residents are being relocated. The three-story building, which was also damaged and consisted of 18 apartments, is not subject to restoration and is planned to be demolished, said Oleksandr Kharlov, first deputy head of the Odesa regional military administration, in a telethon.
Odesa will also begin partial dismantling of residential buildings in Dacha Kovalevsky that were damaged by Russian shelling on October 18. At the meeting, the executive committee approved a technical inspection report that provides for dismantling. The report was also approved by the regional commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies.
