On February 27, the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting registered the Odesa Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian NGO "Committee of Voters of Ukraine" as a print media entity for the newspaper "Intent".

This means that the printed publication, which has been distributed free of charge since 2009 (first under the name IzbirKom, later - Intent), has undergone the procedure in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Media". According to the law, print and online media can register on a voluntary basis.

The advantages of a registered media outlet include

  • Confirmation of the status of a journalist, as a registered media outlet can issue a certificate, the details of which are established by law. According to Art. 1 of the Law "On State Support of the Media, Guarantees of Professional Activity and Social Protection of Journalists," a document confirming the status of a journalist must contain the name and type of media outlet, its identifier in the register of media entities;
  • guaranteed accreditation: according to part 2 of Article 26 of the Law "On Information", accreditation cannot be denied if all the documents provided for in this part are submitted. That is, if a media outlet is registered, its accreditation cannot be denied on the basis of the Law on Information;
  • participation in co-regulatory bodies established by the National Council.
  • Legal protection: registered media have a clear legal status that helps protect their interests in case of disputes.

At the same time, media registration also imposes obligations on the media:

Registered online media are required to publish the following information on their websites

  • the official name of the media outlet
  • postal address, phone number, and e-mail.
  • identifier in the Register of Media Entities.

Registered media are responsible for disseminating true and verified information.

Earlier, the National Council officially registered the online publication Intent, as well as the Center for Public Investigations, a coalition of investigators, journalists and activists founded in 2017 by IzbirCom (Intent) and the Odesa regional organization of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, together with the Institute of Political Information and the Anti-Corruption Office.

You can view all issues of the newspaper "Intent" on the website of the Odesa CVU here.
