A technological complex for a nuclear power plant is planned to be built in Mykolaiv region. The project is to raise UAH 9.3 billion.

According to the Center for Public Investigations, citing data from the DREAM ecosystem, Mykolaiv region could become a key region for the development of the country's energy sector.

The project envisages the construction of an enterprise that will manufacture fuel assemblies for nuclear power plants (NPPs) using Westinghouse technology.

The project is part of the state targeted economic program Nuclear Fuel of Ukraine, which aims to create capacities in Ukraine for the production of nuclear fuel and its elements in cooperation with other countries. This will reduce dependence on fuel supplies from abroad and reduce the risks associated with the uninterrupted supply of nuclear power plants.

The project was initiated by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and implemented by NNEGC Energoatom. According to the description, all technological processes at the enterprise will meet modern environmental standards.

The project envisages capital expenditures of UAH 9.3 billion. The priority areas of financing are the purchase and depreciation of the necessary equipment, as well as other capital expenditures that will ensure the full operation of the complex. In particular, it is planned to spend about UAH 2.5 billion on the purchase of equipment.

It is expected that the project will not only create the necessary infrastructure for nuclear fuel production in Ukraine, but will also be a necessary step in the development of the energy sector in Mykolaiv region. This will create conditions for further growth of the region's economy, provide new jobs, and improve the skills of local workers in the nuclear energy sector.

In December last year, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine announced Energoatom's plans to build power units 4 and 5 at the South Ukrainian NPP. The project envisages the construction of two new power units outside the existing NPP protection circuit.

In addition, South Ukrainian NPP will invest about UAH 50 million in the modernization of the safety system. In particular, it is planned to replace the switchgear, which is key to uninterrupted power supply to critical facilities of the plant and ensuring its stable and safe operation.
