In Mykolaiv region, a convicted man was released for contract military service. He was placed under two-year administrative supervision and restricted from moving outside the military unit.
This is evidenced by the ruling of the Voznesensk City District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast.
The court decided to release the convict from the colony on parole to perform military service under a contract. The convict was serving his sentence in the Voznesensk Penal Colony No. 72 for theft on a large scale.
This is a man who was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2024. At first, he was given a suspended sentence, but in March 2025, the court canceled the probationary period, and the convict was sent to the colony. He began serving his sentence on April 1, 2025.
However, in early May, the convict appealed to the colony administration with a request to release him for military service. According to the results of the medical commission, he was found fit. He also had a written consent from the military unit, which was ready to accept him as a rifleman in the specialized battalion "Shkval".
The court, having heard all the parties, granted the colony administration's request. Thus, the man was released from further serving his sentence for 4 years, 10 months and 17 days.
According to the court's decision, within 24 hours after the ruling came into force, he must report to the military commissariat accompanied by the National Guard. In addition, he was placed under administrative supervision for two years. He is forbidden to leave the location of the military unit without the permission of the commander.
In April, the Voznesensk City District Court also allowed the convict to be released from the colony to do military service under contract. In 2024, the Ovidiopol District Court sentenced him to seven years in prison with confiscation of property, and he served his sentence in penal colony #72, where he was supposed to stay until April 2030.
However, in March 2025, the man asked the court to allow him to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The administration of the colony supported his application and filed a corresponding petition.
