In Odesa region, a carrier of persons liable for military service across the border was sentenced to probation

A court in Odesa found a man guilty of illegally transporting people across the state border of Ukraine and sentenced him to five years in prison with the deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the protection of the state border of Ukraine for a period of one year and probation for two years.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

Last year in April, border guards stopped two cars on a field road in Podil district, one of which was occupied by three residents of Cherkasy, Kyiv, and Kharkiv regions, and the other by an Odesa resident who accompanied them. The investigative team of the territorial police unit was called to the scene.

After initiating criminal proceedings and conducting a pre-trial investigation, investigators found that the 27-year-old resident of the regional center was communicating via one of the messengers with an unknown person, from whom he received an offer to help three people liable for military service get abroad bypassing official checkpoints. The resident of Odesa was to accompany the car with the men to the state border, driving along field roads and avoiding checkpoints, mobile police and border guards.

Having reconnoitered the area, he informed his accomplice that there were no obstacles, and later met the car with his clients at the agreed place, whom he was supposed to assist in the illegal crossing of the state border.

However, law enforcement officers thwarted the escape plan. Border guards drew up administrative materials against the conscripts who intended to illegally travel to a neighboring country.

But investigators charged their "guide" with facilitating the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine by removing obstacles, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, in relation to several people. The indictment under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was sent to court.
